Based in Johannesburg, Frank Meintjies works in development. Together with Edgar Pieterse, he edited Voices of the Transition: the politics, poetics and practices of social change in South Africa. He cut his teeth in journalism but left the mainstream media to work in non-governmental organisations and trade unions. Frank has over the years written column for various newspapers, including the Weekly Mail, the Sunday Times and The New Age. His themes have included: progressive social change; inclusion; anti-discrimination and opposition to ‘othering’; the need for a deepening of democracy; human rights, the importance of spaces for free expression; the advancement of “voice”, issues of space and place and the roles of culture and the arts.
